Magnesium Trisilicate Mixture
DESCRIPTION
Magnesium Trisilicate Mixture acts as an antacid and provides symptomatic relief on dyspepsia, peptic ulceration, gastritis,
oesophageal reflux and heartburn, flatulence, hyperacidity. It reacts with gastric contents to form a gelatinous silicon dioxide
(which is said to protect ulcerated mucosal surfaces and promotes healing) (Goodman & Gilman, 7th Edition). Magnesium
Carbonate (light)
appears to be an excellent antacid under
clinical conditions. It converts into Magnesium
Chloride and Carbon Dioxide
in the stomach. Sodium Bicarbonate is highly soluble and exerts an immediate and
rapid antacid
action in the stomach with the liberation of Carbon Dioxide. It is of short duration of action as any excess rapidly enters the
intestine. (Goodman & Gilman 7th Edition).
